After Winding Down Jon of All Trades, Jon Ekstrom Launches New Show to Promote Different View of Masculinity
DENVER (April 11, 2025) – In many ways, it is mortifying being a white, straight, cisgendered man in America right now. Too often animated by petty grievance, misplaced cultural resentment, and baseless paranoia, a lot of white masculinity has curdled into a toxic stew of ugly vitriol and a desire to not only win, but to make sure those opposed to you lose and also suffer in the process. It’s exhausting and enormously dispiriting.
That’s why I, Jon Ekstrom, have wound down my award-winning Jon of All Trades Podcast, and I’m launching Off the Clock w/Jon Eks, a brand new show where I talk about everything but work. I spent more than a decade talking to more than 400 people about what they do, how they do it, and how they got there. At its launch, there weren’t many shows like it. There are now a zillion shows exactly like it. So what about the rest of our lives?
I think so much of what people dislike about our current moment can be attributed to loneliness and spending too much time in our personal online echo chambers. My new show, Off the Clock w/Jon Eks, seeks to demonstrate connection, communication, and community. I’m very clearly a dude, and a dude who loves sports, hopping into a mosh pit at a local punk show, and an entrepreneur. But I’m also a proud girl dad, cat guy, deeply sensitive, and a whole lot more.
A narrow view of masculinity hurts us all. Plus, as a straight, white, cisgendered man, I have privilege many others do not. It’s imperative I use that privilege and my platform for good. I aspire to be the change I want to see in the world.
The show will feature conversations with my many friends, colleagues and acquaintances and will feature candor, vulnerability, lots of profanity (sorry, Mom!) and a wide range of topics. I’ve got a killer theme song from one of Denver’s finest bands in Sorry Sweetheart, and a great logo from phenomenal designer Bradley Haag at Nebulus Visions. I want this show to be a bright spot in your week and put a pep in your step. Think of it as a good hang with interesting people as we try to build the world we want to live in together.
Off the Clock w/Jon Eks is a production of Deft Communications, a communications consulting firm that produces a suite of podcasts for a variety of businesses and organizations. Jon hosted and produced the award-winning Jon of All Trades Podcast for 11 years. He currently produces six other shows and has consulted on, show-run, and/or hosted more than 25 shows in his career. He lives in Denver with his wife, two daughters, two cats, and a dopey, 4 year-old Bernese Mountain Dog.
